Matrix soundtrack: English lyrics to German song?

This seems the right place to ask.

Track 12 from the first movie, titled "du hast" by the group Rammstein. What
are the English lyrics? They're repeated so it's not very long.

'Nein' is 'no' and 'du' is 'you'... but that's all I understand.

See, this *was* the right place to ask! Many thanks.

Gracious me! I had absolutely NO idea my tastes and sensibilities in music
were so hopelessly outdated and unrefined! Whatever shall I do about such an
unforgivable and embarassingly public faux pas? How completely gauche of me
to even hint at the name of this long out of favor ensemble: their inept
croakings and grossly out-of-tune noodlings suitable only for street urchins
and coachmen.

Heavens... I blush, I burn at the mere thought of such error.

Well, goodly duo, I do earnestly beg you to accept my most abject apologies
for unknowingly diverting --even if ever so briefly-- your precious
attentions from what doubtlessly are much more pressing issues at hand.

Without question your World Views of popular music and culture clearly leave
my unseemly, rat-like thoughts in the dust. I am truly daunted at your
stellarly vast storehouse of knowledge. Certainly you've spent countless
hours researching these nebulous subjects in the finest centers of
international learning. But, oh! the accolades for your hard labors must be
unimaginably stupendous! Surely a Nobel on the not-so-distant horizon may be
spied? The suspense must be almost unbearable. Yes, yes... do keep us all
informed!

Signing off, I am...

Groveling at your feet with eyes downcast, waiting most hopefully for
further snippets of your coolness

PS: thank you, Crudbreeder, for your quick and courteous response. I
sometimes forget Google is such an all-encompassing resource.

You'll have to forgive them, they tend to suck each other's cock while they
make sure everyone knows that all differing opinions are inferior to their

I agree with you, though... but with kids like those two running around on

attempting to engage in civil conversation about most bands.

not really... let's take a look:

Rammstein - makes use of keyboards
Industrial music (save yourself from the elitist definition, i don't care) -
makes use of keyboards

Johnny Cash - makes use of acoustic guitars
Synth pop - makes use of keyboards

it's really not comparable to cash/synthpop.
so please, no more bad analogies...

Not that I've noticed. And really, a better analogy would be asking about
Johnny Cash on alt.gothic. He's not Goth, but that would bother the denizens

You can claim that there are degrees of off-topicness, and you'd be

I don't know what the proper NG would be for Rammstein, but RMI ain't it.

Well, Sound Mirror made another suggestion. He said that a band that
makes use of keyboards is on topic either in rec.music.industrial or in
alt.music.synthpop. If it ain't RMI it must be alt.music.synthpop then.
And they would need the traffic even more than RMI does.

Because it was an inane point that he made. Great, he caught me,
a random pairing of artist & NG might not be as badly OT as the
one the OP made. So what, the point remains the same.

keyboards do not an industrial band make.

for that matter)?

Wrong, i never stated that it was on topic. I simply said Rammstein uses
keyboards, industrial and synthpop artists also use keyboards. There is no
reason why Rammstein can't be discussed here, as you would find similarities
in the music of other bands that fall under the industrial umbrella. I
should explain (before someone else tries to point it out) that, just
because they use keyboards, it wouldn't be too out of place in a synthpop
group; it would be out of place (unless one considers Rammstein's cover of
DM's "Stripped", or possibly Kraftwerk's "Das Modell"). It's more fitting in
an industrial group.. not only for the industrial elements in the music, but
because there are a slew of industrial fans who listen to Rammstein as
well.. probably more so than synth pop.

So, just because the members of Rammstein, Depeche Mode, WU-Tang klan, and the
Berlin Philarmonic Orchestra all use dental floss once in a while, doesn't means
that their music can be discussed in all of the newsgroups interchangeably.
There has to be more than the mere presence of a particular instrument in a
group's music to make it on topic here.

I'm amazed that even though the people have changed, the arguments are
still the same.

Jamie,
checking rmi once a month at best.

PS -- there is an English version of "Du Hast" on _Sehnsucht_ in which the
lyrics are "You... you hate... you hate me..." Hence, the confusion on the
proper translation of "Du Hast", which is in fact "you have."

PPS -- "Hierate Mich" means "Marry Me."

Johnny Cash - makes use of acoustic guitars
Synth pop - makes use of keyboards
it's really not comparable to cash/synthpop.
so please, no more bad analogies...
Yes, it is a bad analogy, but not in spirit, only because it doesn't quite
capture what the point of what the person intented.

But still, Rammstein doesn't belong on rec.music.industrial, and anyone who
thinks so is musically uneducated.

But then again, what's the point? The largest threads, the biggest
contributors to disccusion, on this newsgroup seem to be started by people
asking dumb questions which offend the sensibilities of the veterans of this
group. I think certain people here *like* bitching about this kind of stuff
and don't even realize it.

Then again, I don't think the solution to slow discussion on this group is
to encourage people to start posting wildly unrelated topics whose
intellectual content is dubious. I think many people agree with me when I
say that I'd rather this group "die" then turn into a forum for that kind of
thing.

Dood, modern day usenet is all about bitching now. Since there is no
more concept of "the September noob rush" and other classic instances,
there's pretty much nothing left but complaining.

ARPANET and the ilk that followed was founded by nerds and
self-righteous types. Pureists might think that the great discussion
medium was a good thing for bringing all types of people together, but
only the types with superiour wit or incredible low self esteem reigned
and the rest generally get flushed out.

I mean, come on, why are fatsex, pr0n, furries, deviant music, and
conspiracy theories the most brought up topics on any random
well-populated forum of interweb communication?

Now let us all praise almighty goatse, may he live one thousand years.

I would definitely not say that. Then again, it all depends on what you
consider to be industrial and industrial-related or not. It also depends on
whether or not a stick gets lodged up one's ass when someone mentions such a
band on this newsgroup. Why be so conservative about it, ya know?

Well, your post suggested that Rammstein was an industrial band simply
because they use keyboards, I was merely pointing out that this might as
well mean that they are a cheesy 80's heavy metal band.

I didn't define it by its instrumentation, ass. I was simply explaining why
Rammstein is at least slightly on topic here, more so than Johnny Cash would
be in alt.synthpop. I said industrial music makes use of keyboards. I did
not say "it's industrial because it uses keyboards/synths/whatever". I don't

The song essentially is a play on typical marriage vows, so it being

It's the "asked" in past perfect - Du hast, Du hast mich, Du hast mich
gefragt. The "hate" thing may be double meaning, though. Oh, and as KMFDM/Die
Krupps rip-offs, Rammstein are as on-topic here as anywhere.
