Post by S-DAWGi am considering a career in the music production field and would like
to know if anyone has any helpful hints or suggestions for
me......thank you
don't sign to the following labels:
Metropolis
Cleopatra
Invisible
... (any others?)
Try to imitate another artist to get the hang of it, but don't promote
that as your project. Take a course or try to teach yourself music
theory. Read "The Manual" by Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty (it's an
interesting look at how the business of pop music worked in the late
80s.
Buy volumes of "Now that's what I call Music" dating back to at least
the mid 80s, listen to them extensively (sp).
Don't start an internet street team.
Don't spam groups with your project and certainly don't make any broad
assumptions about how great your project is.
Find locations to play locally, such as open mic nights and such, but be
sure the venue is friendly to your type of music (heh :P ).
You didn't mention anything about preferred instruments or anything, but
invest in a 4 track recorder and go from there.
